Victoria Falls is a small town in the Matabeleland North Province of Zimbabwe. It is situated on the southern bank of the Zambezi River, at the western end of the Victoria Falls itself. Victoria Airport is approximately 18 km south of the town and is internationally linked to Johannesburg and Namibia.
The settlement in the town began in 1901 when the possibility of using the waterfall for hydro-electric power was explored. The town expanded when the railway from Bulawayo reached the town just before the Victoria Falls Bridge was opened in April 1905. The bridge connects Zimbabwe to Zambia.
